This chapter speaks about how St. Peter displays a strong sense of loyalty to the Catholic faith, through upholding the authority and significance of the Church. He is also highly disciplined towards his journey of strengthening his faith in God. We can seek inspiration from St. Peter through the following ways.
First, being loyal to God and Mother Mary. This can be exercised through first being aware of the Ten Commandments, not worshiping other gods, or statues, engaging in palm reading, believing in astrology, etc. We can also partake in a ritual of strengthening our faith every day by saying a prayer in the morning and going for weekday masses, not just on Sunday. Other than that, saying the rosary with or without our family can help to strengthen the bond we share with God and Mother Mary.
Second, being disciplined. Sometimes, we are guilty of making excuses for skipping a rosary prayer or not attending daily mass. We may give reasons such as feeling tired, prioritizing time with friends or career or school. Recognizing that God and Mother Mary never fail to be steadfast in watching over us and protecting us, will help us to think twice about making convenient excuses for putting God second place in our priority list. We can be like St. Peter, who was disciplined towards his commitment to God and Mother Mary.
Based on the excerpt from Matthew, Chapter 16, verse 18-19, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven”. It reminds us that just like Peter, God has given us the keys to the kingdom of heaven. As we live our lives on Earth, we should use this gift that God has given us, to spread the Good News and show love, kindness and patience to the people around us. This verse also reminds us that whatever we have committed on Earth will be put to judgment. Hence, we need to be mindful of our actions, engage in charitable work and activities that will strengthen our relationship with God.
